The Value function of a Mixed-Integer Linear Program with a Single Constraint
نویسندگان
چکیده
The value function of a mixed-integer linear program (MILP) is a function that returns the optimal solution value as a function of the right-hand side. In this paper, we analyze the structure of the value function of a MILP with a single constraint. We show that the value function is uniquely determined by a finite number of break points and at most two slopes. We derive conditions for the value function to be continuous and analyze its behavior where it is discontinuous. We also propose a method for systematically extending the value function from a neighborhood of the origin to the entire real line using the technique of maximal subadditive extension. ∗Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA 18015, [email protected], http://coral.ie.lehigh.edu/ ̃menal †Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA 18015, [email protected], http://www.lehigh.edu/ ̃tkr2

Comparing Mixed-Integer and Constraint Programming for the No-Wait Flow Shop Problem with Due Date Constraints
The impetus for this research was examining a flow shop problem in which tasks were expected to be successively carried out with no time interval (i.e., no wait time) between them. For this reason, they should be completed by specific dates or deadlines. In this regard, the efficiency of the models was evaluated based on makespan. To solve the NP-Hard problem, we developed two mathematical mode...
متن کاملA Hybrid Meta-Heuristic Method to Optimize Bi-Objective Single Period Newsboy Problem with Fuzzy Cost and Incremental Discount
In this paper the real-world occurrence of the multiple-product multiple-constraint single period newsboy problem with two objectives, in which there is incremental discounts on the purchasing prices, is investigated. The constraints are the warehouse capacity and the batch forms of the order placements. The first objective of this problem is to find the order quantities such that the expected ...
متن کاملAn Efficient Bi-objective Genetic Algorithm for the Single Batch-Processing Machine Scheduling Problem with Sequence Dependent Family Setup Time and Non-identical Job Sizes
This paper considers the problem of minimizing make-span and maximum tardiness simultaneously for scheduling jobs under non-identical job sizes, dynamic job arrivals, incompatible job families, and sequence-dependentfamily setup time on the single batch- processor, where split size of jobs is allowed between batches. At first, a new Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model is proposed for t...
متن کاملA mixed integer linear programming formulation for a multi-stage, multi-Product, multi-vehicle aggregate production-distribution planning problem
In today’s competitive market place, companies seek an efficient structure of supply chain so as to provide customers with highest value and achieve competitive advantage. This requires a broader perspective than just the borders of an individual company during a supply chain. This paper investigates an aggregate production planning problem integrated with distribution issues in a supply chain ...
متن کاملSolving Single Machine Sequencing to Minimize Maximum Lateness Problem Using Mixed Integer Programming
Despite existing various integer programming for sequencing problems, there is not enoughinformation about practical values of the models. This paper considers the problem of minimizing maximumlateness with release dates and presents four different mixed integer programming (MIP) models to solve thisproblem. These models have been formulated for the classical single machine problem, namely sequ...
